Food & Drink

Tony's Pizza

Tony's Pizza Napoletana in Little Italy is ranked 10th on the list of best pizza in the world. They don't take reservations so go early or off peak hours. We also recommend heading south from Tony's and getting lost in Little Italy after. Tony's is a short car ride from the hotel area.

Asian Bites

For Dim Sum we highly recommend award winning Dragon Beaux in the Richmond district. You'll have to catch a car there. If you're walking through Chinatown we recommend checking out the oldest Dim Sum restaurant in the country, Hang Ah.

For Ramen we highly recommend Ushi Taro in the Inner Sunset by Golden Gate Park. You'll have to catch a car there. If you're walking through Japantown, any of the ramen restaurants near here are excellent.

Almost all the sushi places are excellent. Our personal go-to is Sakesan in the richmond district.

Nearby Food

Boudin Bakery has cute and yummy baked bread, including SF's famous sourdough.

Chowder Hut has quick and delicious clam chowder bread bowls.

In-N-Out is right around the corner, it's not the "best" In-N-Out but it's the only one inside the city. If you're from out of state and haven't tried it, its worth a visit.

You'll also find a number of seafood joints along the water near the hotel. Not all are created equal and we don't have a strong recommendation other than getting some crab (Dungeness if available) and maybe a lobster roll.

Famous Irish Coffee

The Buena Vista Cafe claims to have re-invented and perfected the Irish Coffee some 70 years ago. It is a SF staple for visitors and their signature drink is fantastic in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic forms. Buena Vista is walkable from the hotel area and the walk is quite entertaining itself, with tourist shops and photographic points along the way.

Tikis & Speakeasys

Tonga Room is more upscale and located in Hotel Fairmont. You can dance and drink nearby the floating stage. We recommend eating before you go.

The Zombie Village has the best atmosphere. The drinks are creative and delicious. It's not in the greatest part of town- take a car.

Smugglers Cove is a little bit tiki bar and little bit speakeasy. It's not easy to find, but its an excellent stop.

Bourbon & Branch is a hidden speakeasy with charming character and crafty cocktails. The password is "Books".

Breweries

San Francisco has a number of breweries to choose from, just give it a google. Our favorite is Barebottlea in bernal heights. You should try Pliny the Elder from Russian River if you can find it.

More Nightlife

It would be wrong not to include a short list of the places we can be found on the weekends. Here are some of our favorites: Zeitgeist's divey beirgarten or the Hayes Valley Beirgarten if the weather is nice, Detour SF Arcade Bar, and Mad Dog in the Fog on Haight Street.

Indoor Activities

Musee Mecanique

Musee Mecanique is very close to the hotels and walkable. It hosts a large number of antique arcade games that will bring a smile or cringe.

The Ferry Building

The Ferry Building houses a number of shops and little restaurants that are nice to check out if the weather isn't so great.

Cable Car Museum

The Cable Car Museum is a neat little place that lets you see the inner workings of San Francisco's Cable Car system. Its a wonderful spot to check out if the weather isn't playing nicely.

Japantown Malls

Japantown has a really unique japanese shopping center filled with cultural shops and restaurants. We always have a good time exploring, even if we don't buy anything. It's also a really cool area to explore outside of.

The Academy of Sciences

The Academy of Sciences is located right in the middle of Golden Gate Park. It has a Planetarium, Large Aquarium, Albino Alligator, Multi-story Rainforest Dome, Earthquake Simulator, Green Roof, and a number of other interesting exhibits. Thursday nights are "adults only night" and are the best way to enjoy the museum, but days are good too. This is one of Spencer's favority places in the city.

Exploratorium After Dark

The Exploratorium is a hands on science museum near the Ferry Building. Thursday nights are for adults and is the only time we'd recommend going.

Outdoor Activities

There are too many things to do in this city and making this list was hard. These are just a handful of our suggestions.

Pier 39 & The Embarcadero

Pier 39 is close to the hotels and walkable. It holds a number of shops, shows, and an iconic SF Heart at the end of it. Pier 39 can be found along The Embarcadero, which is filled with tourist shops and excellent people watching.

Saturday Farmers Market

The Ferry Building Farmers Market is open Saturday at 8:00 AM. It runs until 2, but we recommend staying there no later than 12:00 PM. There is an event Saturday afternoon :) There are some huge sculptures within a couple blocks of the Ferry building we encourage you to discover.

Friday Night Off The Grid

Friday Off The Grid is a friday night food truck event with live music and firepits located near the water in Fort Mason. It's a longer walk from the hotels, probably worth getting a car.

Haight-Ashbury

Haight-Ashbury is famous for its ties to the grateful dead and other well known personalities from the late 60's. It's not the hayday anymore, but it still has hippie vibes and charm. Walk west from the linked location.

Fort Point & the Bridge

Fort Point is civil war era fort at the base of the golden gate bridge. Its a unique historical site with excellent views of the bridge you'll want to take are car to 983 Marine Dr, San Francisco, CA 94129.

Alternatively, you could walk across the bridge and back (take a car to the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center). Those with extra stamina can trudge up to Battery Spencer for stunning views.

Explore Chinatown

Chinatown doesn't really need a description! Just go see it. Keep your eyes out for the spun thread candy and keep your ears open for any street shows.

Ride a Cable Car

The Cable Cars are iconic and an "everyone should do it once" type experience. The linked location is the nearest stop to the hotels and should be walkable. It is located right outside the Irish Coffee filled Buena Vista Cafe.

Tunnel Tops Park

The Presidio Tunnel Tops is San Francisco's newest park and its a gorgeous place to explore. It's also right by the wedding venue. It doesn't show up correcly on google maps yet, you can get there by taking a car to 210 Lincoln Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94129.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is somewhere we visit daily and WAY better than central park :P There are a number of attractions including a waterfall, tea garden, conservatory, botanical garden, museums, roller skating, a ferris wheel, live bison, windmills by the beach, and much much more. The park is 3 miles long, so pick a particular spot or plan to spend 3+ hours walking around.

Sutro Baths & Lands End

The Sutro Baths are a historical point located at Ocean Beach. There is also a fairly deep cave you walk safely walk into. We may or may not have been to an unsanctioned rave or two inside.

Lands End is a fairly long & moderate-difficulty hiking trail that spans from the Sutro Baths to Golden Gate Bridge. It offers beautiful views and the pleasent smell of eucalyptus trees all along the way.

Muir Woods

Miur Woods is located outside of the city and is the easiest way to see some real redwoods. There are public transit options to get there.

Sausalito

Sausalito is cute city across the golden gate bridge. You can get there by ferry, rent bikes and ride the large hills, or mix the two to get there and back. There you can shop, get ice cream, and stop at Bar Boce on the water. This is a full day activity.
